Commercial institutions were also started in Bombay and Calcutta between 1903 and 1912.City College and Goenka College of Commerce & Business Administration were the two pioneers that heralded the entry of Commerce education in the university system of Kolkata in the very early days of twentieth century. By that time City College had already made its imprint on the education map of undivided India for its excellence in other subjects. A century later, the Department of Commerce still retains its prestigious position as one of the foremost institutions dedicated to Commerce education in the eastern part of the country.
