City College has been promoting sports and games not as a matter of policy but as a platform to groom youngsters for the coming years. Besides, an admission quota has been introduced, sporting achievements duly recognized through special facilities and awards being offered to deserving players. The college participates in various tournaments organized by Calcutta University as well as by state level sports bodies like CAB, IFA, WBTTA, State Sports and Games championships, etc. In order to give the students a taste of adventure sports, a trekking programme to Sandakphu was organised in 2007 under the UGC Adventure Sports Scheme. A small team was also sent to attend a rock-climbing course in Purulia.
The College cricket team won the CAB-organised Inter-College tournament in 2008. Also, a number of students from our College have represented the State and the University in different disciplines. Due to this active pro-sports stance, previous years have yielded impressive results, the college winning not less than 10 trophies in various sports event. This is keeping in line with the winning of the CAB Inter-college cricket tournament in 2008.
The college women Table Tennis team has won 4 trophies in the previous years. The college football team was the runners up in all the last 3 edition of the North-Calcutta District Meet. The cricket team was runners up in 2011-2012 in the Calcutta University Tournament. The men and women athletic team was declared champions in the just concluding North-Calcutta District Meet, with Mr. Lokdeep Kabiraj and Miss Pamela Lahiri being declared as best athlete in men and women section respectively. Lokdeep was also declared as the best athlete in the Inter-college inters District Championships. He is also one of the four men athlete selected to represent India in the Asian and World athletic meet. City College also has a number of students representing the State and the University different disciplines.
Inter-class Tournament in Football and Cricket are held, along with individual tournaments for indoor games The College Annual Sports, takes a competitive and festive mood each year that evolves enthusiasm among the students, non-teaching and teaching staff.
The college has a fully equipped gymnasium, inaugurated in early 2005. Health conscious students and members of the staff pursue fitness program under two qualified trainers, who provide guidance. The multigym remains open on all working days during the college hours.
