Brief History:
Department of Economics is one of the oldest in this College. Formerly it was known as Department of Political Economy. After 1960-61 it was named as Department of Economics. Since then this department has been fulfilling the educational demand of good number of students. Since inception, this Department has been catering just–in-time service particularly to weaker and marginalized section of the society.
This Department offers 4 UG courses:
B.Sc. (Hons.) Degree Course.
B.A./B.Sc. (General) Degree Course.
B.Com. (Hons.) Degree Course.
B.Com. (General) Degree Course.
Both of these are 3 years programmed(including 6 semesters’ courses) Under CBCS Systems.

To acquaint the students with various economic concepts and principles of Economics.
With those concepts we want to equip our students with the ability to analysis the emerging issues of Indian economy and world Economy.

In respect of research and consultancy:
The City College Centre for Economic Studies has been formed to undertake research and consultancy work (jointly with the department of Commerce), which will not only provide intellectual challenges to our teachers (and learners), but also generate revenue to augment our infrastructure and learning resources. We aim to improve the functioning of the Centre and tie up with Universities, other academic bodies as well as with the industry to make it a more active unit.
