General Objectives:
The community college movement, an innovative system of education for the young generation of India, has today become the national phenomenon. Development of a sustainable community through imparting employable skills and uneducated, thereby improving the quality of life of the community people and also to simulate a social development and economic growth. The prime objective is to provide an educated and skilled workforce that improves the quality of life for individual students and the communities in general. To achieve the goal, Community College of City College sets forth the following specific objectives-
- To Include the Excluded.
- Giving the Best to the Least.
- Matching Education with Employment.
- Close Linkage with Industries.
- The Participation of the Community.
- The Development of Skills and Competencies.
- Enhancing the Employability.
Background:
All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) has launched the National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF) to be implemented in polytechnics, engineering colleges and other colleges in the university system from 2012-2013. The programmes are sector specific. The launch was done by Sri Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Human Resource Development on 07.02.2012. Govt. of India has decided to establish 200 community colleges on pilot basis from the academic session 2013-2014. The project is financed and supported by MHRD, Govt. of India, UGC and Department of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal. In West Bengal, 13 colleges have been selected to start with. City College is the only degree college, located in Kolkata, will cater education to unemployed young students passing Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination.
Policy:
The policies of the management of the Community College of City College are-
- Relief style Anti Poverty Program.
- Emphasis changed from helping poverty stricken areas to empowering strengthening individual's competencies.
- Optimum utilization of the local resources through community participation.
- Designing courses, study materials and project work on the basis of local needs.
- Providing more emphasis on developing functional skills rather than education component.
- Competency based training programme.

Course-I: Travel and Tourism
Duration: 1 Year (2 Semester of 6 months duration each) [Total 1000 Hours]
Eligibility: Higher Secondary or equivalent qualifying Examination
Intake: 50 Students

Course-II: Media and Communication Technology
Duration: 1 Year (2 Semester of 6 months duration each) [Total 1000 Hours]
Eligibility: Higher Secondary or equivalent qualifying Examination
Intake: 50 Students
