Koha: Integrated Library Management Software

Our OPAC may be accessed from anywhere and anytime. The OPAC helps the users to find out the availability of their required documents within a very short span of time. The OPAC may be searched in various ways according to the need of the user. We have tried to give input of various other resources in our OPAC in addition to finding out the detailed information of the holdings of the library.

We have used our "OPAC main user block" as the display of book jacket of new additions of the books, so that the valued users may know the latest books added to the library without physically visiting the library. At the bottom of the book cover, we have inserted “Book Details”. By clicking this button, user will get full bibliographic details of the book.

Keeping in mind of the present-day requirement of the young users about on-line enquiring of various information without visiting the library, we have tried to introduce “Library GPT – An Artificial Intelligence (AI) replied real time chat box. We have just started this new feature in our OPAC and gradually we will update the database with the answer of the queries to be asked by the valued users. The method is under process.

Mobile OPAC: Smart phone is now at hand of every human being. Moreover, young generations prefer to use mobile phone rather than desktop or laptop for communication and finding out any object of their need. Thus, we have also made our Koha staff interface and user interface compatible to mobile. We hope that this feature will attract the young users to go to our OPAC.

KOHA Software Modules:
Koha is made with in-built various modules for its functions and services. We use some of the modules to automate our library partially. We use the following modules full or part thereof.

Barcode generation for easy scanning:
With the installation of cloud server, we have also started barcode generation and affixing the barcode on the title page and verso of the title page. We have also started to generate Call number from the Koha database and affix them on the spine of the book for proper shelving of the books on the shelves. We use barcode and book spine generated from system.

OPAC visitor:
Since the installation of OPAC in cloud server, we may get the number of times, the users search OPAC for finding out their required and desired information. So far the number is 1710 as on 19.01.2024.
