City College, Kolkata-9 is a renowned and prestigious traditional institution under the University of Calcutta in West Bengal and played a remarkable social and cultural role in the wake of Bengal Renaissance of the nineteenth century.

Our institution believes in, 'real, proper and applied education' and 'research and experience oriented knowledge'. From the colonial era this college has been putting efforts tirelessly to emancipate the oppressed and downtrodden in our society and culture by helping them to enlighten themselves with the blessing of education.

Since, November 2017, this college is administered as per rules relevant for other Government - aided colleges in West Bengal. I feel extremely happy and proud to be a part as a student (1989-1992) & Vice-principal (now) of this reputed institution. Our college has a long record of extraordinary results and can claim among its alumni many illustrious minds of India; speaking of Bengal, notable alumni include famous actors Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Haradhon Bandopadhyay, renowned journalist Barun Sengupta, famous poets like Rajani Kanya Den, Shakti Chattopadhyay, 'Brahmo' philosopher Mahesh Chandra Ghosh and many more. This institution has also been served by several teachers of high repute which include Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Acharya Brajendranath Sil, Sir Asutosh Muhopadhyay, famous poet Jibananado Das, literary figures like Naryan Gangopadhyay, Sankha Ghosh, renowned film-makers Buddhadeb Dasgupta Chidananda Dasgupta and many more.

Our college boasts of having had renowned dramatist, 'Sahitya Akademi' awardee and present honourable Education Minister professor Bratya Basu as one of its faculty who served the institution for more than two decades. Dr. Subodh Sarkar, who is also a Sahitya Akademi awardee and a famous literary figure is serving this college a Professor in the Department of English Literature.

I gratefully acknowledge the service of our respected Principal, dedicated teachers, office staff. I am thankful to our honourable President for his remarkable contribution in building up this prestigious Institution.

I acknowledge the contribution and dedication of our students towards our college, as well. I am fortunate enough to bring to your notice that our college is one of the State aided colleges which provides value based quality education to every student irrespective of their social, financial, economic, religious and linguistic backgrounds.
